How to Improve Your Life the Fun Way

Do you want to improve your life? What about improving your life the fun way?

Of course, everyone wants to improve their lives. The problem is, many people find the process boring and tedious.

While it’s true that there is no shortcut to reaching your full potential, it doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun. In fact, you can improve your life and have fun doing it!

How?

By gamifying your life.

Yes, gamify your life. Make improving your life feels like playing a video game. Just like playing a video game is fun,  improving your life can also be fun.

For that to happen, you need to include some video-game elements in your self-improvement journey. Here is how.

1. Define what you want to improve.

In a video game, there is an objective that you need to achieve. The objective might be capturing the enemy’s flag, mining the most resources or something else. The point is that you have a clear idea about what you are working on. Similarly, you need to define what you want to improve.

2. Make it challenging but realistic.

For a game to be fun, it needs to be challenging but still realistic. If it’s too easy, you will get bored. If it’s too hard, you will give up in frustration. It needs to stretch your ability but not by too much.

Similarly, you need to have challenging but realistic goals for improving your life. For example, if you want to get good at writing, you might set a challenge of writing 500 words a day. It isn’t easy for a beginner, but it’s not too difficult either.

3. Track your progress.

Why do you have fun while playing a game? Because you have a sense of progress. You know you are getting closer to victory and that makes you excited.

So you need to track your progress. In writing, you could keep count of how many words you have written. In doing a habit, you could track your streak.

Have a “score” and put it on a “scoreboard” you can easily see.

4. Celebrate victories.

How does it feel when you win in a game? It feels great, doesn’t it? The label “You win!” on the screen can make you leap with joy.

Similarly, you should celebrate victories along the way. Immerse yourself in the moment. Reward yourself with something nice if you want to.

If it’s a big project, have some milestones along the way that you can celebrate. These are your “battles” on the way to winning the “war”.

5. Have a “boss” challenge.

In many games, you need to face a “boss” before moving to the next level. This is the biggest and strongest enemy in that level.

Similarly, you should have a “boss” challenge every now and then. It’s a big project that will take you to the next level. An example is writing a book.

Normally, such a project might intimidate you. But with this gamification mindset, you will be excited. Why? Because it’s your chance to prove yourself! You will fight your best to show them what kind of warrior you are.

6. Enlist your friends.

Multiplayer games are all the rage now. Many people enjoy playing with their friends.

If you want to, you can also make your self-improvement “game” a multiplayer one. How? By enlisting your friends!

For instance, if you want to build the habit of running, you could ask your friends to run with you. Or, if you face a big project, you could build a team to tackle it together.

The journey to reaching your full potential doesn’t have to be boring. To the contrary, it could be fun. Yes, there are many traps along the way, but there are also many treasures and power-ups. So get yourself ready and move onward to victory!
